KS3 Curriculum Guide - Year 7 Physical Education
Athletics  
Pupils will develop techniques for a throwing, jumping and running events in athletics. Pupils will also develop tactical understanding within competitions and try to improve their personal best level.

Weeks 1 to 6Boys - RugbyGirls - Netball  
Rugby Students will learn and develop the fundamentals of rugby. This will include passing, catching, running with the ball and movement. This will also include introducing contact elements such as tackling, rucking and mauling. Students will develop these skills slowly and in a controlled, safe environment. When skill level is deemed appropriate, students will then start to involve contact in conditioned and normal games. Netball Netball Students will learn and develop core netball skills of passing, catching, movement, shooting, defending and attacking. Girls will then put these into conditioned match situations to improve the accuracy and consistency of those skills. Finally, students’ knowledge of playing positions is developed and full netball matches are played.

Weeks 13 to 18Gymnastics  
Pupils will learn how to perform basic gymnastics actions including different rolls, shoulder stands and head/hand stands. They will employ these skills to create and perform sequences

Weeks 25 to 30Badminton  
Students start with working cooperatively with serving and developing punch shots to increase the consistency of rallies. Students will then develop overhead clears, smash shots, net and drops, as well developing their overall tactical knowledge. Students will also perform in a variety of different competitive matches to put tactical understanding into practice.

Weeks 31 to 36Striking and Fielding  
Pupils will learn and develop their catching, throwing and ground fielding skills. Pupils will also learn sport specific striking techniques in cricket, rounders and stoolball, as well as the rules involved in each sport.

Weeks 7 to 12Boys - Basketball and HockeyGirls - Rugby   
Basketball and Hockey Basketball (3 weeks) Students will learn and develop the basics of basketball including dribbling, passing, movement with and without the ball and shooting. Students will then perform these in game situations. Hockey (3 weeks) Students will learn and develop the basic skills required in hockey. This includes moving the ball, moving with the ball, defending and shooting. Students will use these skills in small sided match situations. Rugby Students will learn and develop the fundamentals of rugby. This will include passing, catching, running with the ball and movement.
