When we first proposed the school, our preferred site was the King Alfred’s leisure centre in central south Hove, which is the least served area in the city in terms of secondary schools. Hove is also one of the areas which will face a shortage of school places in the near future. It became apparent, however, that this site would not become available in the time frame needed for the school’s opening. The path to securing the site would also be difficult. We therefore began looking at other sites for King’s.

Temporary site

The council offered us the Sixth Form Centre in Portslade Old Village, and that is where our school opened in September 2013. The school is currently based on this site.

It is a beautiful site with an impressive sea view to the south and St Nicolas’ church to the east. It has access to playing fields and is served by regular buses (1, 1A, 2 and 2A). The bus takes around 10-15 minutes from a central New Church Road location. Our address is: High Street, Portslade, BN41 2PG.

Permanent site

The permanent site for our school will be at the West Blatchington Primary School site in Hove. The plan involves a complete redevelopment of the site, which will result in a new building for West Blatchington Primary School and new buildings for King's School.

Our permanent site is due for completion in early August 2019 and the school will move over the summer break ready for students to occupy our new buildings in September 2019. Progress on the permanent site is very good; steel structures and concrete floors are in place and Kier expect the building to be watertight by Christmas 2018.
