Curriculum Intent
Our vision for RP is that all students from all backgrounds and abilities are engaged with the subject matter and can learn about (At1) as well as from religion (At2). We ensure a safe environment for all students to explore, question and express themselves on matters of religion and philosophy.
Our hope is that every student will enjoy the subject and benefit from exploration of faith in lessons, our extracurricular debate club and/ or through enrichment trips to ground their knowledge in real world experiences. In RP no one should be left behind and all will be able to access the GCSE. Provisions will be made for PP and SEND, and every student should reach their potential in terms of outcome at GCSE (including no gaps in progress). As the department grows we will continue to work collaboratively to enrich and vary the curriculum to provide the best religious education for students.
The school’s vision is driven by our mission statement “Inspired by the way that Jesus loves; to honour, nurture and raise each other up to be wise”. RP links with this vision as it gives pupils the opportunity to explore, discuss and question enabling them to become wise. Through the delivery of a wide range of cultures and religions pupils can see themselves as individuals that are part of larger communities. In their studies they will also be given the skills to be able to lovingly disagree and respectfully challenge others.
Our curriculum aims equip students with systematic knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews, enabling them to develop their ideas, values and identities. It will develop in students an aptitude for dialogue so that they can participate positively in our society with its diverse religions and worldviews. Students should gain and deploy the skills needed to understand, interpret and evaluate texts, sources of wisdom and authority and other evidence. They will learn to articulate clearly and coherently their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences while respecting the right of others to differ.

Key concepts
To now about and understand a range of religions and worldviews, so that students can:
- describe, explain and analyse beliefs and practices, recognising the diversity which exists within and between communities and amongst individuals.
- identify, investigate and respond to questions posed, and responses offered by some of the sources of wisdom8 found in religions and worldviews.
- appreciate and appraise the nature, significance and impact of different ways of life and ways of expressing meaning.
To express ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact of religions and worldviews, so that students can:
- explain reasonably their ideas about how beliefs, practices and forms of expression influence individuals and communities.
- express with increasing discernment their personal reflections and critical responses to questions and teachings about identity, diversity, meaning and value, including ethical issues.
- appreciate and appraise varied dimensions of religion or a world view.
To gain and deploy the skills needed to engage seriously with religions and worldviews, so that students can:
- find out about and investigate key concepts and questions of belonging, meaning, purpose and truth, responding creatively.
- enquire into what enables different individuals and communities to live together respectfully for the wellbeing of all.
- articulate beliefs, values and commitments clearly in order to explain why they may be important in their own and other people’s lives.
